Escort in NY Governor Scandal Speaks Out!

Ashley Dupre, the former escort at the center of the downfall of disgraced New York governor Eliot Spitzer, is now telling her side of the story to ABC’s Diane Sawyer. In an exclusive interview for “20/20,” the 23-year-old Dupre tells Sawyer she does not feel responsible for the political scandal that derailed the career of Spitzer, who is married and has three children. “If it wasn’t me, it would have been someone else,” she says. “I was doing my job. I don’t feel that I brought him down.” Dupre tells Sawyer that she worked on and off for the escort service and that after being left by a boyfriend with expensive rent, medical bills and a heavy load of credit card debt, she returned to the agency. One of her assignments was a meeting in Washington D.C. but Dupre said she didn’t know the client was Spitzer. Dupre says now her only ambition is to pursue a singing career she has always dreamed of. While she says she has already received a number of lucrative offers — from reality shows to $1 million to pose for Hustler magazine –she has turned them all down.
